Just a few of the many emails we receive:

Thank you so much for Church Power Point! It has made my job SOO much easier! Our church has two services -- a "traditional" and a "contemporary." We rely on Power Point for the contemporary service, and your site has been such a wonderful resource. I am so grateful for your ministry. --

Since we discovered your website our presentations on Sundays at Orpington Methodist Church are so much better and we have had many compliments on the improved style and variety, so we are very grateful for everything that you provide.  Thank you so much. Jan

I just want to thank you so much for the wonderful service you provide by means of the images. I prepare most of the presentations for our church, a catholic church outside Sydney, Australia. So often I get comments such as 'wonderful images', so thanks.  The Gallery is wonderful and I haven't fully explored it yet.

Have a very happy and holy Christmas, and may you be blessed in the New Year with many graces from our God.
God bless,
Ann Moloney

Think About It is just what I needed to get a fresh outlook on the text.  It's even more than that.  It brings into focus what our ministry should be all about.  Thanks.  Rev. William Smith California

When I am looking for an image for a new program or special announcement, I can always find it on Gallery.  It is the best buy on the internet for the worship needs of a church.  I'm so grateful for all you do. I am not only the pastor, I also handle all the powerpoint for our service.
Rev. John Fisher

I just want to thank you so much for your power point helps.  I am a fledgling media person and your web site makes my task so much easier.  Your artwork make our church's chapel service look so much nicer and more professional.  I thank God for all that you do.

I just wanted to express my appreciation for the PowerPoint slides you provide.  It's really tough for a church that operates on a very tight budget - like the one I attend - to be able to provide much more that just generic backgrounds.   Thank you and may God bless your ministry.

I just wanted to thank you for your ministry in this effort.  We are a small church and we are focusing on the needs of the homeless in N Fort Myers.  These PowerPoint masters will help in that, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate them.   They are wonderful!   God Bless You!

Thank you for making the images available.  I prepare the power point slides for our worship service and it has been so helpful. I know that it takes a long time to come up with the right images for each Sunday.  Many thanks and blessings to you.

     Epiphany

This is a favorite Christmas story.  Children love it because the Christ-child receives Christmas presents and they love Christmas presents.  Adults love the story for its familiarity and its exotic character.  Wise men from the East are terribly romantic –– as are their gifts of wonderfully foreign gifts of frankincense and myrrh.

We all love seeing nativity sets with wise men and camels standing around admiring the baby Jesus.  And we enjoy singing, "We Three Kings of Orient Are" ––even though we aren’t sure they were kings….or even if there were only three of them.

I never knew what myth really was until I was a pastor.  It wasn’t until I began to preach on particular texts that I noticed some of my favorite bible stories have been embellished with a variety of images  that can‘t be found within the Bible’s pages.  It was a perspective that pulled this busy pastor to a quiet halt.  I felt a little sorry for myself at first, missing the reassuring traditions.  And then I felt shame enough to ask myself, How important are they to my basic belief system.

  • There are so many examples.  The apple that Eve ate and handed off to Adam can’t be found in Genesis.

  • And take today’s text:  We three kings of Orient are is a favorite hymn of mine, sung to go along with today’s story.   Three exotic men with crowns who traveled by camel to bring gifts to the newborn baby Jesus lying in the manger in the stable where the star gleamed overhead.   Just think how this version lives as part of our Christmas story.  Can’t you see it…..the camels’ breath steaming in the night air as the three kings, in gorgeous silk robes clutching their precious gifts kneel to adore the baby lying in a manger.

Hmmm.  Since Matthew is the only book in which the story does appear, let’s take a look.

  •  Oh, yes, Matthew tells us that the wise men arrived, but he sure didn’t tell us how many there were.  There could have been 4 or 5, even 12 wise men. We only know that they brought 3 gifts.
  •  And did they really arrive soon after Jesus was born?  Matthew does not tell us they came to a stable.  He does not describe Jesus as an infant lying in a manger either.  He tells us that the wise men entered the house…..the house, not a stable…..and saw not an infant baby, but a child.
  • The story has been embellished and that version has became so popular no one questions its authenticity.  Interesting, isn’t it?

I mention these details as an indication that people hundreds of years ago had thought a lot about the stories of the Bible and began to build on them.  It is just that they assembled their thoughts in a different pattern from us, and we can easily mistake their drift, because through the years, for some reason, the Bible began to be thought of as a history book by some, rather than a book that was  written to inspire us.

That is why we must offer good Bible studies.  It is not only that some of the stories have been creatively developed through the years, but often some of the translations into English are inaccurate.   For example, the word stable with which we have become so familiar in the Nativity story is misinterpreted.  The Greek word in the earliest Bibles actually means cave.

  • See page 2 for further notes with corresponding images.  Page 1 offers 2 sets of additional images based on the scripture.
