Ah, what can I do, Jesus? I'm just one person and there are so many in need.
Doesn't this sound like a familiar refrain? How will you preach Jesus' message of service?

I was absolutely astonished when I read a response from a viewer who watched one of these videos on helping the disadvantaged. I was ashamed to learn that this is a citizen of my own country spewing forth such hate. What would Jesus say!
"You f---- up retards! Hey, those people are some useless mother f----. They are so lazy that they wont get up in the morning and do something usefull. insead they just sit on a chair looking at the wall hoping that we intelligent whites will send them some money and food. all we realy should do is jst to send them some condoms or castrate them, or just exterminate them and get rid of the s---......"
Certainly not as hateful or bigoted as the person who wrote those remarks, unfortunately, I have heard similar words quite frequently from a number of acquaintences and church members. Haven't you?
Frankly, when I was young, I never understood the plight of the poor Then, a terrible recession happened in the 80's. I lived in the Detroit area, one of the worst hit sections of the country. Lost my job and health insurance, almost lost my house, but thank God, had money in a pension plan. That money, plus my unemployment check paid for the essential bills for my children and myself until I found work. It took over a year. I wasn't lazy!
A very good friend of mine, a hard working gal in business for herself, fell off a ladder while cleaning the gutters on her roof. In the hospital, they discovered she had breast cancer. As she started treatment, she suffered a heart attack. Her business, her income and her health insurance disappeared. She lost everything, including her car because of medical bills. My friend said, "The difference between us is my body gave out and yours did not."
We U.S. pastors need to be aware that this country is the only rich country that tolerates so much poverty. Why is it, we should be asking our congregations, that we who boast such a high percentage of Christians....indeed call ourselves a Christian nation....ignore Jesus' option for the poor?
"When I was hungry, you gave me to eat," Jesus said. You clothed me....gave me shelter.... How many times have Christians turned Jesus away? Not just for gathering donations once a year for denominational funds...but how often have you really preached this vital message.
Instead of spending precious time murinating over our different Christian dogmas, I think we churches need to get together to "feed Jesus" throughout our towns, countries....our world. Isn't that what Christianity is all about?
